iphone app simply will not work the base station....

I have tried 6 different locations around the house, and I am still getting intermittent service at best, and more often, no service. My cell carrier
is Verizon, and I guess that where I live, the service is not strong enough for the base station. It seems strange that my Apple I 5 phone works great, and I have never had any service issues at home with the phone. I am on the third base station trying to get this thing working.......
Yesterday, I was able to arm and disarm the system, albeit very slowly. Today, all it does is time out trying to disarm the system.
